Congrats to RBRCO on being awarded a grant from the Tournament of Roses Foundation! The grant will support the Art of the Horse program for 4th & 5th grade students from Pasadena Unified School District.

We’ve just passed the 6 month mark of the volunteering year for Rose Bowl Riders which runs between the November annual meetings. Each membership is required to work 10 hours per year or pay $10 per unworked hour, billed in November after the annual meeting. Please either log your hours on Track It Forward or pay your opt-out fee!

Our 12th Annual Horses in the Arroyo Day celebration will be held on Saturday, August 26th! The festivities include games on horseback and foot, a barbeque and silent auction benefitting the Rose Bowl Riders Charitable Organization. Please see here for full info.

The Spring Work Day will be held on Saturday, May 6th from 8am until 1pm. It’s a good idea to bring gloves and tools (paint brushes/rollers, loppers, shovels, rakes, etc.). Remember to label anything you bring to ensure that you’ll get it back. For those who ride with Myrtle Hill Farm, there are no morning lessons on Work Days. All members are encouraged to come to work day, meet fellow members, and help out. Many hands make light work!

2:00pm – Miniature therapy horse “Cherry Jubilee” will perform tricks and show off her costumes. After her performance Cherry will be at her photo booth so you can have your photo taken with her. She also gives kisses!

4:00pm – Our own RBR horses and young riders will parade in costume with prizes for everyone!

5:00pm to 8:00pm – Mexican feast by Lupe Vazquez Taco Catering.

Beer and Wine will be served but only in our commemorative glasses that you can purchase during the evening! (please no outside liquor is allowed) The Live DJ “All Things Bee” will offer a full range of Country Western music with dancing and of course, country line dancing!

The 11th Annual Horses in the Arroyo Day will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 9am! There will be all the usual fun classes like barrel racing, pole bending, egg and spoon, etc. with the addition of a timed obstacle course. A silent auction, tack sale  and BBQ lunch too! Western trainer Julie Unamuno will be transitioning her program to Encanto Equestrian Center in Duarte, and effective immediately Julie will no longer be giving Western lessons at Rose Bowl Riders.  We are sad to see Julie go and her departure is a loss for our organization. Please join us in wishing Julie the very best of luck with her new opportunity!

The Foundation will describe the projects, goals, agencies in charge, timeline and ASF involvement/leadership. This is a free public event for horse people and those who enjoy the park and arroyo area. Our 2012 summer camp schedules have been set! Julie Unamuno’s Arroyo Canyon will hold camp from June 25-29 and July 9-13. New at RBR: Arroyo Canyon Summer Horse Camp! RBR’s Western trainer Julie Unamuno will be holding two sessions of week-long Horse Camp at Rose Bowl Riders in July and August 2011. Sessions will focus on Western Pleasure and Horsemanship, with daily riding, mini horse shows, games on horseback, crafts, and much more. The first session will be held July 11-15, and the second session will be from August 22 -26. Both sessions are suitable for children age 7-14. Cost is $400 per session. 6th Annual Horses in the Arroyo Day Play Day and BBQ will take place August 13th. Class registration starts at 12:00 PM, Play Day begins at 1:00 PM, and BBQ begins at 5:00 PM.
